Each captain has their own route and it’s always best to trust their judgment. However, the ideal place to sail in Formentera is the Natural Park – that is, the coasts of Formentera facing Ibiza.
Best boat route in Formentera:
1- Generally, boarding is in La Savina, the port of Formentera. Although it depends on the boat.
2- Sail in front of Illetes and its white sands.
3- Visit the island of Espalmador, which can only be reached by boat.
4- Go snorkeling at the Natural Pools.
5- Visit Cala Saona and its turquoise waters.

In all our boat with skipper in Formentera options, the route is suggested by the captain, but it’s always based on what the client wants (as long as it’s feasible).
For example: if you don’t feel like sailing and want to spend the day in front of Illetes, it’s absolutely fine — in fact, it’s quite common.
However, it should be noted that the captain always has the final say, and that’s simply due to their expertise at sea.
Another point to consider is that some boats in Formentera, due to engine autonomy or wind conditions, cannot complete all routes and must choose one area (for example: Illetes and Espalmador or Cala Saona and the Caves).

On a boat tour, you usually have 4 food options:
1- Bring your own food on board: most boats have ice coolers and tableware (but no kitchen). Sandwiches are always a great option to eat on board.
2- Disembark at a beach bar: classic options in Illetes include: Beso Beach, El Pirata, El Tiburón, Es Ministre or Juan y Andrea. If sailing toward Cala Saona: Restaurant Sol or Chacala are classic spots for paella. If heading toward Es Pujols: Chezz Gerdi or Fandango are great alternatives.
3- Ask the restaurant for boat delivery: most restaurants offer this service, sending food to the boat by tender. For example, the paella from Sol de Cala Saona costs around €28 per person delivered. However, restaurants in Illetes can charge over €40 per person.
4- Food is included: this applies to large boats for many passengers (for example, the group Catamaran includes an optional catering service).

This question, which many people ask us, really depends on each group’s budget and preferences. For example:
In Illetes there are no cheap restaurants, and some beach bars like Juan y Andrea can seem overpriced to some. On the other hand, there are hotspots for celebrities and influencers like Beso Beach, which might feel too lively if you’re looking for a quiet atmosphere.
That said, the best thing to do is write to formenteranatural@gmail.com and send us your query — we’ll be happy to help you with no obligation. However, it’s important to highlight that in all cases, booking is essential during mid and high season.

The clarity of the sea in Formentera is the best in the Mediterranean, which is one of the main reasons why many people staying in Ibiza choose to cross over to Formentera and take the boat tour here (see also the options: ferry from Ibiza + Boat in Formentera).
During the tour (depending on the chosen route) you may see:
– The beaches of Illetes (ranked among the top 5 beaches in the world).
– The island of Espalmador (where you might spot celebrities on their yachts).
– Cliffs and caves.
– Ancient watchtowers (which warned of pirate attacks).
– Cala Saona (famous for its turquoise waters).
– Sunset (over the sea and next to the mysterious Es Vedrà rock) if you’ve chosen the right schedule.

Your swimsuit, sun protection (very important, especially for children), and a light jacket in case you return late.
If you need to buy food, drinks or ice, there are two supermarkets in La Savina, just 100 meters from the boarding point (see on Google Maps).

1- All boats are booked with an advance payment by card or bank transfer. Smaller boats require a deposit of 15% or 20%, and larger boats require a 50% deposit.
2- The balance is paid on the day of the tour before boarding (by cash or credit card). The day cannot begin unless payment is completed.
3- All boats require a contract, which is signed before the activity begins. This contract is exclusively between the client and the boat owner. Formentera Natural, as an intermediary, is exempt from any responsibility related to this agreement.
4- Deposits are made in cash or by card hold. Some banks may take up to 42 hours to release the hold (varies by bank). Boats with a skipper do not require a deposit.
5- Cancellations:
6- Payment of the deposit implies acceptance of the above terms.

If you don’t have much experience at sea and you’re wondering which is the better option, here’s the main difference:
Catamaran Rental in Formentera:
The catamaran is best known for its stability — when sailing, it usually has less movement than a sailboat. Another advantage is that the back of the catamaran is often more comfortable for swimming, as it’s easy to get in and out of the water.
Sailboat Rental in Formentera:
The sailboat stands out for being unmatched when it comes to sailing under wind power. The sensation of gliding over the sea with the sails full is unforgettable.

Each boat in Formentera has different schedules — some are fixed (usually those with two departures per day) and others are flexible, like the cheap boats in Formentera. If you want to check any schedule variation, the best thing is to write to formenternatural@gmail.com
*Although returning early is an option, there are no half-day prices. The most affordable option, if you’re looking for a cheap boat in Formentera, is to go for smaller boats or a group tour (check out our Group Catamaran Tour).

If the cancellation is made by the captain, whether due to weather conditions, safety, or mechanical issues, the deposit is fully refunded immediately.
If the client wishes to cancel, they must check each boat’s specific policy. As a general rule, cancellations made more than one month in advance are eligible for a full refund (except for large group boats). Requests to cancel with less than 30 days’ notice will be reviewed case by case, but generally, the money is not refunded.

If you’re in Ibiza you have 2 options to enjoy a boat tour in Formentera:
1- Take the ferry from Ibiza to Formentera (45 € round trip per person on an open ticket), and once in Formentera board the boat at the port of La Savina.
2- Choose a boat option with departure from Ibiza (not all Formentera Natural boats offer this). Most small boats depart from Ses Salines or Cala Jondal (Ibiza).
* Only the large catamarans have permission to board at Marina Botafoch, the port of Ibiza.

If you’re planning a marriage proposal in Formentera, the best option is to rent a boat in La Savina and cruise along the beaches to impress your partner with a romantic boat ride in Formentera.
A great idea is to sail at sunset, which — if the weather cooperates — can be truly spectacular. For romantic tips in Formentera, write to formenternatural@gmail.com and let us help you organize the perfect day.

We get many inquiries about bachelorette parties in Formentera or bachelor parties from Ibiza to Formentera. Our recommendation is always the same:
For a group of friends wanting to have a great time, with music, swimming, and some drinks, a boat is always the best choice. Onboard you’ll have the freedom to enjoy yourselves and party with your group. We also suggest the daytime option rather than sunset, because after the tour, many beach bars host sunset parties.
We have various boats available, but if you’re looking for specific features it’s best to write and request recommendations at formenteranatural@gmail.com

We’ve organized many weddings and corporate events on catamarans in Formentera.
Most weddings in Formentera rent the catamaran for the pre/post wedding, with the idea of letting guests relax while sailing and enjoying the catering and open bar on board. If you’d like to include a DJ, the extra cost is 500 €.
As for corporate events in Ibiza or incentive trips in Formentera organized by companies, they usually rent the catamaran for:
1- Transferring from Ibiza to Formentera with a stop at Espalmador and organizing an activity on the island with us — like a bicycle tour to Illetes.
2- Sailing from Ibiza or Formentera, doing a full crossing and hiring additional water activities with Formentera Natural such as paddle surfing, snorkeling or diving.
